Boater left clinging to survival flotation device for hours in Vermilion Parish

The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit rescued a boater Tuesday who was found clinging to a safety flotation device in White Lake.

It happened around 1:25 p.m.

He was transported to a local hospital for treatment, officials say.

Sheriff Mike Couvillon said the boater had been in the water since 9:00 a.m. Tuesday after hitting a log and being ejected from his boat and clinging to nothing but a survival floatation device.

He wasn’t rescued until 2:15 p.m., Couvillion said.
