On Friday morning, the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding a female who was observed stealing flowers from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Cecilia. Following an investigation into the complaint, Deputies were able to identify and locate the subject who was identified as Rhonda Lagrange, 42, Arnaudville and a warrant of arrest was obtained for the theft of the flowers.
After further investigation, a search warrant was obtained for Rhonda Lagrange’s residence and following the execution and subsequent search of her home by Investigators with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office and the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office; stolen silk flowers, flower arrangements, religious statues, vases, and other religious memorabilia were recovered, and she was arrested yesterday and booked into the St. Landry Parish Correctional Center on the charge of Simple Burglary.
She will be extradited to St. Martin Parish at a later date, where she will be booked in on the above charge.
Two previous reports of thefts from the cemetery were currently being investigated by St. Martin Parish Investigators dating back to December. However, through the subsequent investigation, it was learned several other thefts went unreported. Since Friday, several other victims have come forward and reported thefts of flowers and other items from the cemetery that have occurred over the last three months.
