CROWLEY, La (KLFY) – In Acadia Parish, several law enforcement agencies searched a neighborhood in Crowley for several hours Tuesday morning looking for a juvenile suspect who they believe shot another man.
The shooting happened Monday just before 11 p.m. in the Kathy Meadows Apartments.
“Our deputies responded and when they did they located a male subject who had multiple gunshot wounds,” said Tessa Richard, Director of Human Resources for the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
“It happened right by my building,” said resident, Carla Beverly. “I was laying down in the bed, and then next thing you know I heard shots. I heard about six shots.”
Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Deputies, Crowley Police, Rayne Police, and Louisiana State Police searched the area of Lurose Dr. near the apartment complex looking for the suspect.
The search led to four schools: North Crowley Elementary, Ross Elementary, Ross Headstart, and Crowley Middle, to go into lockdown for a few hours.
“We’re receiving tips constantly,” said Richard. “What’s going on here today, we were searching this house in response to one of those tips, as we did this morning when we received another tip. With this particular search we were able to utilize some thermal imaging, clear the house, and he was not found here.”
Meanwhile, police tell us that the shooting victim remains in critical condition.
Carla Beverly, a family member of the victim, says her cousin was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
“A child shooting at a grown man that’s uncalled for,” said Beverly. “This need to stop in Crowley.”
However, Beverly says the violence is nothing new in the apartment complex.
“I wish this community would come together and stop all of this nonsense,” said Beverly.
“To all the youngsters out there thinking they’re grown, get your education. A gun, when you pull that trigger, the bullet is not coming back.”
Anyone with any information on the shooting is asked to call the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
