LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)- Subtropical Storm Alberto is official in the northwestern Caribbean with 40 mph sustained winds.
The National Hurricane Center Forecast Cone follows our forecasting with Alberto staying in the eastern Gulf this weekend.
It estimated to make landfall late Sunday into Monday as a Tropical Storm with 60 mph winds around the Mississippi and Alabama coast line.
This path keeps Acadiana on the west or drier side of the system so the impacts are still expected to be minimal in our area.
Further east, across Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida they will see periods of heavy rain (5-10″ inches of rain possible), tropical storm strength winds, and strong rip currents at the beach.
