The lack of repairs to graves has caused Attorney General Jeff Landry to take matters into his own hands.
There are three main components to the lawsuit Landry is filing against the cemetery.
The first being that caskets and human remains were displaced over a multi-parish area.
Another issue at the cemetery comes in regards to a lack of historical records.
Due to the damage done from the floods, it is unknown who is even buried here and that is the case for a number of graves in the cemetery.
The third problem Landry takes issue with is a lack of repair on their part.
Landry saying the damage quote occurred to numerous burial vaults, necessitating the replacement of some vaults to their original locations and the repair of many displaced graves.
FEMA issued 113 checks to family members of those buried in the cemetery for repairs to the graves.
KLFY reached out to FEMA to see how and if all the checks were used.
They say they cannot release that information to the public.
