333 federal workers in Louisiana seeking unemployment due to shutdown

Hundreds of federal workers in Louisiana are seeking unemployment benefits from the state as the partial federal government shutdown continues.

In his radio address Wednesday, Governor John Bel Edwards said 333 furloughed workers in Louisiana have applied for unemployment because of the shutdown.

Edwards said the Louisiana Department of Workforce Development reported Wedneday that the 333 unemployment claims were filed between Dec. 22, 2018 and Jan. 16.

There are more than  6,000 federal workers in the state, according to Edwards’ press office and approxiamately 800,000 federal workers in the United States.
