Broussard, La. (BSC)- It may have a funny name, but pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, and it’s coming to Broussard. On Saturday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to noon, anyone over the age of 18 is invited to the Broussard Sports Complex at St. Julien Park for an Intro to Pickleball event. Participants will learn the basic rules of the game, try out the paddles, and compete against others in a rotation of games.
A combination of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, Pickleball can be played indoors or out with a paddle and whiffle ball in singles or in teams of two. The rules are simple, and the game is easy for beginners to learn. According to USAPA.org, there are more than 15,000 indoor and outdoor courts in the U.S., and many retirement locations have adopted pickleball as an integrated sports activity for the residents.
Pickleball isn’t the only thing new coming to the complex in Broussard. New Assistant Sports Director Kyli Lassalle says there will be year-round tennis events and clinics for children and adults as well as tennis camps this summer for kids. The kids’ camps will include tennis drills, fun exercises, games, and match play as well as some pickleball. Contact Kyli to register or learn more about tennis or pickleball events by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 337-281-2298.
