The man accused of robbing over a dozen pharmacies across Louisiana may be seeing more charges brought against him soon.
Duane Mahne was arrested July 24 and remains in jail following a five hour standoff with a Lafayette SWAT team. And Acadiana law enforcement agencies are doing their best to see he stays behind bars for many years to come.
One of his alleged victims talked to TV10 about the robbery and how its changed her life.
It has been more than a year now and Chris Melancon claims she can still see pharmacy robber Duane Mahne walking into her store.
Melancon says Mahne walked up to the counter, pointed a pistol in her face and screamed for pain killers.
Melancon says he grabbed some Loritab and then ran out. Police say Mahne confessed to the Melancon robbery but they're positive he's the same man responsible for at least 18 more pharmacy robberies across south Louisiana"
Without the help of the DEA, State Police and the effort combined between all agencies, officials say that he'd still be out there committing those robberies
Carencro's Police Chief Carlos stout says not only did Mahne target Acadiana Pharmacies, and extended as far as Lake Charles and Alexandria.
Chief Stout says Mahne was consuming the drugs and distributing them.
"As he started to commit more robberies, he started to get more bold, he started to not care so much for the victims, and at that point we identified hm as a danger to society" Chief Stout says.
Melancon says she is relieved to hear the man she believes is responsible for terrorizing her is no longer on the streets.
So far, four police departments have filed warrants against Mahne. At least a dozen more agencies are working on charging him as well.
