Interstate 10 inspections planed, alternate routes encouraged

Updated:
If your regular routine includes a commute between Lafayette and Baton Rouge between the hours of 7:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M. or you're planning a trip in the next two weeks, state highway officials advise you might want to find an alternate to using Interstate 10 on specified days.

The Department of Transportation and Development says it began today and will continue for two weeks doing bridge inspections along a 10-mile section around the Whiskey Bay Bridge between mileposts 117 and 127, which is the Whiskey Bay Exit.

Tuesday and Thursday's inspection will be in the westbound lanes. The schedule calls for skipping September 5th but returning Saturday in the westbound lanes before switching to the eastbound lanes September 7th, 8th and 9th.

The work would shift back to the westbound lanes on September 10th. DOTD advises that the schedule could change if weather doesn't allow the inspections on specified dates.
