Unrestrained driver killed in single vehicle accident

Clinton Shortly after 8:45 pm on August 24, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 63 north of LA Hwy 37 in East Feliciana Parish. The crash took the life of 50 year old Harry E. Williams, Jr. of Clinton.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Williams was driving a 1999Cadillac Escalade northbound on LA Hwy 63. For unknown reasons the Escalade ran off the roadway to the right. Upon doing so it entered into a ditch and struck several trees.
Williams was unrestrained at the time of the crash and suffered fatal injuries as a result. Impairment is not suspected; however, a toxicology sample was taken from Williamsand submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seat belt use. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up.
