St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office were notified of suspicious circumstances on Monday at a Truck Stop on the Evangeline Thruway.
Upon arrival, the complainant, Joseph Oquinn, 55, Parks, LA., advised the responding Deputy of a possible bomb that he placed in the Truck Stop.
Oquinn, was extremely intoxicated and uncooperative and refused to give any identifying information to Deputies. Following a lengthy investigation into the matter, Oquinn was arrested and charged with the following:
LA. R.S. 14:40.1-Terrorizing
LA. R.S. 14:103-Disturbing The Peace By Intoxication
LA. R.S. 14:34.2 Battery On A Police Officer
LA. R.S. 14:108 Resisting A Police Officer
LA. R.S. 14:122 Public Intimidation
Due to the nature of the threat that was made, the truck stop was evacuated to allow for the search of the business to be conducted. During the search, a duffel bag was located that was believed to belong to the suspect.
Due to the nature of the threats made, U.L.P.D. was contacted and responded with their bomb dog to assist with the sweep of the building and the duffel bag. The search yielded negative results. The business was then cleared and reopened.
