Cell phones could return to Lafayette schools

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Cell phones may find their way on to Lafayette high school students' back-to-school lists.

The Advocate reports
the Lafayette Parish School Board will consider a revision to its policy that would allow the phones to be used for instructional purposes and by students during lunch break.

The district's current policy bans Cell phones on all school campuses, a policy that's been in effect for the past few years.

The proposed revision also would allow middle school students to bring a cell phone to campus but would not allow them to use the phones when school is in session. The proposed policy would continue the ban on student Cell phones on elementary campuses.

The policy revision is on the board's agenda for its Wednesday meeting as a discussion item.
