We will release additional information as it becomes available.

Crowley PD Investigating Fatal Shooting

Early Monday morning in Crowley, 23-year-old Ryan Gums was shot multiple times in the torso in the 1400 block of West Northern Avenue near Buatt Street.

Gums was taken to Acadia General Hospital where he later died. Crowley Police Chief KP Gibson said, the department is still searching for a suspect. "We're currently investigating this matter. I'm following up on various leads that we have. We do not have any name of a suspect at this time," said Gibson. One resident in the area said he heard the gunshots.

"I heard some shooting, about four or five shots. After that when I was on my way to work, I heard the sirens. That was it," said the resident. He said many people in the neighborhood are fearful of the criminal activity in the area and want change. "It's a very dangerous neighborhood here and there's no street lights at night. Something has to be done about it," said the resident. Chief Gibson said without a suspect it's hard to determine a possible motive, but is looking into every possible situation.

"Many questions need to get answered. Hopefully people who know something will come forward. Maybe a problem that happened with Mr. Gums or something in the past or maybe bad blood we ask that they get involved," said Gibson.

Gibson said he hopes the community will come together and help bring the crime to an end. "I really want the public to be involved in this. It is not just a law enforcement matter, but a community matter because it's our streets, our community where we all live and it takes us all to help resolve these problems," said Gibson.

If you have any information on Ryan Gums' murder,  call Crowley Police or Acadia Parish Crimestoppers at 789-TIPS.
