Firefighters from four departments responded to the 1700 block of Denais Road on Tuesday in Lafayette Parish. Judice, Milton, Duson, and Maurice volunteer departments responded to a reported house fire.
When emergency crews arrived on the scene, heavy smoke and flames were coming from the carport of the dwelling.
Firefighters battled the blaze for approximately 30 minutes before getting it under control. The house and a boat under the carport sustained heavy fire damage. There were no injuries reported.
The occupant heard popping sounds coming from the carport. When he looked outside, he noticed heavy smoke coming from a Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV).
The fire quickly spread to the adjacent boat and attic. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
