Iberia Parish Detectives investigating armed robbery

Iberia Parish authorities are investigating the armed robbery of a convenience store.

July 8, 2014 - Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal reports that on Tuesday, July 8 at approximately 1:35 AM deputies with the Patrol Division responded to 1601 Jane St. in New Iberia, the Pennywise convenience store, concerning the report of an armed robbery. Deputies learned from the store employee that the suspect, armed with a black semi-automatic handgun, entered the store, reached into the cash drawer and took an undetermined amount of cash before fleeing on foot.

The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 6' to 6'2" tall, weighing approximately 200 pounds, wearing a black hooded sweat shirt, black pants and what appeared to be a white t-shirt covering his face.

The store employee was not injured during the encounter.

Detectives with the Bureau of Investigation are continuing their investigation. Anyone with information concerning this armed robbery is urged to contact detectives at 337-369-3711.
