Authorities are searching for two suspects in connection with the fatal shooting of a New Iberia resident in St. Martinville on Tuesday.
The victim has been identified by the Sheriff’s Office as Kevon Bobb, 21, of New Iberia.
Gov. Mouton area resident Mark Batiste was standing on his lawn when, he said, a tan Chevy Suburban drove past him around 2 a.m.
"[Five minutes later] seven shots went off, you know?" said Batiste.
That's when Batiste ran inside his house and called 911.
"The dude in the SUV looked like he had backed up and started hitting cars and stuff down there. He had turned around, came back this way, and went all the way down there," said Batiste.
The SUV made it to the end of his block, when police officers arrived on scene.
According to police reports, officers followed the vehicle to Ledoux Street. The vehicle allegedly came to an abrupt stop and two black male suspects exited the car—leaving behind Bobb.
The Sheriff's Office has taken over the case and said they have not yet identified the suspects, which has left Batiste, on high alert.
"I'm going to look out for sure for different cars and those different people passing through and all that, you know?" said Batiste.
Rare circumstances, he said, in 11 years of living in that neighborhood.
"I'm surprised by that my first time seeing this back there, you know?" said Batiste.
Authorities said they cannot confirm reports of shooting coming from the vehicle the suspects were driving. But, it's an ongoing investigation.
