Picayune to raise school workers' pay

PICAYUNE, Miss. (AP) - Teachers in the Picayune school district won't be the only ones receiving pay raises next school year.

The Picayune Item reports trustees of the Picayune Municipal Separate School District have approved a raise of 75 cents an hour for all other staff members.Earlier, the district had considered a raise of 50 cents per hour.

Finance Administrator Lisa Penton says the extra 25 cents will cost the district an additional $81,000 next year.

Superintendent Dean Shaw said their non-certified staff members are paid less than other schools along the Gulf Coast and the last time they received a raise was about five years ago.
