Acadiana Students Receive Simien/Miniex Scholarship

On Saturday, June 21, 2014, the annual reception for the Virginia Miniex/Margo St. Julian Simien Memorial Scholarship will be held at the Staybridge Suites in Lafayette, Louisiana. The scholarship is sponsored by the law firm of Simien & Miniex. Each year, the Miniex Family and Simien Family award scholarships to deserving graduates who strive to do well in furthering their education. This award was established to honor the beliefs of Mrs. Virginia Miniex and Mrs. Margo St. Julian Simien that getting a good education is pivotal in a young person's life and creates the foundation to prepare them for the future. Additionally this year will mark the first time the committee will present a Legacy Award. This award will honor legacies of the name sake of the scholarship who exemplify outstanding scholastic achievements.

The recipients to be recognized this year are, in no particular order, Hannah Broussard of Academy of the Sacred Heart, Skylar Courville of Early College Academy, Nicholas Johnson and Joseph Austin Mamou III of Lafayette High School, Kelsea Pierre of St. Martinville Senior High School, and Kylar Wiltz of Breaux Bridge High School. The recipient of the Legacy Award is Sade' Simien, the daughter of the late Margo St. Julian Simien and Clyde R. Simien.

Hannah Broussard plans to attend Tulane University and major in Biology. Skylar Courville will be attending University of Louisiana at Lafayette and major in Biology. Nicholas Johnson also plans to attend University of Louisiana at Lafayette and will be entering the Pre-Law program. Joseph Austin Mamou III plans to attend Louisiana State University and major in Industrial Engineering. Kelsea Pierre has been accepted to Southern University and will be entering the Nursing program. Kylar Wiltz will be attending Xavier University of New Orleans and majoring in Pre-Medicine and Biology. Sade' Simien will be attending Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and majoring in Chemistry.

Dr. Jennifer Jackson will be the guest speaker. The reception begins at 6:00 p.m. for the scholarship recipients and their families.
