BALL, La. (AP) - The town of Ball has launched an early notification system designed to alert residents to, among other things, severe weather events.
The Town Talk reports the CodeRED emergency notification system launched on Monday. It notifies residents of everything from a tornado warning to a road closure to a delay in town services, such as garbage pickup.
Mayor Jonathan Dean says town officials saw a demonstration of the service at the National Hurricane Conference in New Orleans last year and came away impressed.
Participants can be informed of events or town announcements by text message or with a phone call.
Dean says residents can get signup details of the town's website or Facebook page.
