Reap the benefits of what you sow with Seed to Skillet
Seed to Skillet, the quarterly series that focuses on the entire process of growing, harvesting and preparing your own food, will host the second workshop of its 2014 season this Saturday, June 21st, with Lafayette Master Gardener MaryAnne Armbruster, PhD.
Seed to Skillet is an informative cooking demonstration and gardening workshop that focuses on living and eating in harmony with the seasons. Cooking demonstrations focus on preparing and preserving seasonal dishes and gardening workshops focus on seasonal activities that are necessary to maintain a healthy and bountiful harvest. The 2014 began with the basics of vegetable gardening and will progress to focusing on starting and maintaining a home orchard as well as utilizing the natural process of fermentation as a means of preserving the harvest.
The theme of the June 21st event is “Companion Planting, Pickles and Pesto”. Armbruster will be teaching the art of companion and succession planting and will be demonstrating recipes for two types of pickles as well as a local twist on pesto. Participants will be able to sample the cuisine and will leave with recipe cards so that they can make it in their own home.
