Firefighters Battle Two Overnight Blazes

At 2:50am on Sunday, Lafayette firefighters responded to a reported structure fire in the 600 block of Jefferson Boulevard. Upon arrival, firefighters noticed the vacant dwelling fully involved with flames coming from the roof. Emergency crews battled the blaze for approximately twenty-five minutes before getting it under control. The dwelling sustained heavy fire damage.

There were no injuries reported.

Fire investigators determined that the fire originated on the exterior of the dwelling. The cause of the fire was intentional.

At 3:02 Sunday morning, firefighters were dispatched to another house fire in the 500 block of NW Evangeline Thruway. Firefighters arrived on scene and noticed the two-story vacant home fully involved. Crews battled the blaze for at least thirty minutes before getting it under control. The dwelling sustained heavy fire damage.

There were no injuries reported.

Fire investigators determined that fire originated in the interior of the dwelling. The cause of the fire was intentional.

Investigators are working to determine if both fires are connected. The investigation into the previous four fires involving vacant structures remains active. Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
