NEW IBERIA, La. (AP) - Iberia Parish sheriff's deputies say the victim of a home invasion gained control of an intruder's rifle and shot him.
Lt. Richard Fleming tells The Advocate deputies were called late Friday night to a New Iberia home. Deputies learned that three men entered the home, where three adults and two children were inside.
Fleming says one of the men inside the home struggled with suspect Darteze Jack, got control of the rifle and shot him. The 25-year-old Jack, of Lake Charles, is being treated at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.
Deputies arrested a second suspect, 19-year-old Devon Moore, of New Iberia. Moore was booked with home invasion and attempted first-degree murder. Police continue to search for the third suspect. It was unclear whether the men have attorneys. Arrest Made in Home Invasion UPDATE
Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal reports the arrest of Devon Moore, 19 of 1234 Field St. New Iberia in connection with the home invasion which occurred on the evening of Friday, June 13 in the 300 block of Fontelieu Dr.Moore was arrested on Brianna Dr. in New Iberia where responding patrol deputies stopped a vehicle which fit the description of the suspect's vehicle. Moore was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail on charges of Home Invasion and Attempted First Degree Murder.No bond has been set.
Darteze Jack, 25 of Lake Charles, LA was identified as the suspect who was shot by a resident of the home.Jack was transported to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.Warrants have been issued for Jack for the charges of Home Invasion and Attempted First Degree Murder.
Detectives are attempting to identify a third suspect who fled the vehicle stopped by deputies on Brianna Drive.The unknown suspect was described only as a black male.Two guns, a hand gun and a rifle, believed to have belonged to the suspects have been recovered.

June 14, 2014 - Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal reports on Friday, June 13 at approximately 11:55 PM deputies with the Patrol Division were called to a residence in the 300 block of Fontelieu Drive in New Iberia concerning a home invasion and shooting.Upon their arrival, it was discovered that three male suspects, one armed with a rifle, entered the residence which was occupied by three adults and two children.Once inside the residence a struggle ensued between an adult victim and one of the suspects, which resulted in the victim gaining control of the rifle and shooting the suspect.The injured suspect was found in the residence and transported by Acadian Ambulance Service to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette in serious condition.Patrol deputies apprehended one additional suspect near the scene.One suspect is still at large.
Detectives with the Bureau of Investigation are conducting the investigation and are seeking the identity of the suspect currently at large.Charges are pending at this time.
