Family escapes house fire

Also in the Hub City, a Lafayette man and his five children were able to escape a fire that destroyed their family home Saturday night.
Fire department spokesperson Alton Trahan said it happened around 6 Saturday night in the 2800 block of South Fieldspan Road. Trahan said the home was not far from a fire station, and fire fighters arrived quickly but unfortunately the house was a total loss.

The unidentified man told fire fighters he and his children, ages eighteen months to 12 years, were watching television when they saw smoke coming from beneath the laundry room door. The cause remains under investigation.

Now if you can help this family, they would greatly appreciate it. Donations can be made at the First Apostolic Church of Lafayette on Duhon Road. The family is also requesting clothing and shoes for their children, an 18 month old baby girl, a 3t-4t toddler girl, also 2 pre teen girls and one pre teen boy who wear girl sizes small and medium sized boys clothes. Size 5 diapers are also needed.
