Boustany Ready for Another Term

Updated:
U.S. Representative Charles Boustany is ready for another term in office after nearly a decade in Congress.

"I have a lot more work to do and that's why I’m running for re-election,” said Congressman Boustany.

The Republican and former cardiologist says he's proud of his track record during this term. Among the areas of concentration, Boustany says he's still working on bills to lower taxes for working families, ways to promote Louisiana energy, and address coastal issues locally and statewide.

In light of the news making headlines, Boustany has some strong feeling about the state of the VA Hospital system and Affordable Care Act.

"It’s despicable. It's bureaucracy run amok. It’s a problem,” said Boustany regarding the recent allegations of intentional mismanagement within VA hospitals, which led to the resignation of VA Secretary Eric Shinseki. Boustany is a longtime supporter of veteran’s affairs and expanding clinical coverage.

"I don't want them to be locked into a broken system,” said Boustany. “I want to fix that system and I’m doing everything I can to fix it. But, I want veterans to have a choice to seek the highest quality healthcare."

Six months into the implementation of Obamacare, Boustany says Americans have yet to feel the costly affects like higher premiums, which he says in the next month or two could jump 10-15%. He’s been in opposition from the very beginning and his stance has not changed.

"We're not at the point of no return,” said Boustany. “It just makes the reform process more difficult and that's where individuals like myself with 30 years of experience in healthcare can make a major difference."

So far, no other candidates have officially come forward. The qualification period runs from August 20 through August 22nd.
