Sheriff: Teacher exposed student to AIDS virus

Updated:
HOUMA, La. (AP) - Authorities say a high school teacher and boys track coach accused of having a sexual encounter with a male student has now been booked with intentionally exposing the 16-year-old to the AIDS virus.

Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Jerry Larpenter says 37-year-old Derrick Nesby, of New Orleans, was arrested at H.L. Bourgeois High School Wednesday and booked with felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile.

The sheriff said Nesby denies the allegations.

After more investigation Thursday, Larpenter tells The Courier detectives booked Nesby with intentional exposure to the AIDS virus.

Nesby remains in the Terrebonne jail Friday on bonds totaling $1 million.

It was unclear whether he has an attorney.
