FoodNet-The Greater Acadiana Food Bank will host a Drive through Food Drive for non-perishable food donations at its warehouse located at 217 Surrey Street in Lafayette on Sunday, June 8, 2014 between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Donors will be treated to a nice cool treat! On May 10, 2014 FoodNet was the recipient of food donations from the 26th Annual Letter Carrie’s Food Drive.
"The community is always supportive of FoodNet" says Lemel Jones, FoodNet’s Executive Director.
Due to the fact that reminder bags did not go out many donations were not put out for pick up. FoodNet is seeking to recoup the 40,000 pound shortage from this event. Jones states that community members have been calling the FoodNet office to find out how to bring their donations.
"We love and appreciate the continual community support. Although our shelves are not empty, we can project the shortages going into the fall" says Jones.
We are asking groups, faith based organizations, universities, and individuals to support this drive through food drive. FoodNet serves approximately 27,000 food insecure persons in Lafayette Parish annually. All clients are first pre-screened and referred to a FoodNet pantry through 232-HELP.
