Dead fish concern residents

Residents living in the Country Lakes subdivision in Rayne have raised concerns over hundreds of dead fish found floating in one of their ponds.

The fish were discovered this past weekend by a resident living near Country Lake East. The popular fishing area is stocked with catfish, bass and brim.

Residents who fish and live there say this is an unusual occurrence that needs to be addressed. “Definitely want to stay clear from it, make sure my daughter doesn't go near it either.

Lake East is new to the subdivision and just opened up. I would like to know why this is happening and what going on under that water" said David Binder, Country Lakes resident. There are several reasons why this occurs. The most likely is lack of oxygen. Since the ponds are privately owned Wildlife and Fisheries will not be investigating.

The subdivision's management has been notified and has told residents it will be cleaned up and looked into.
