Transparency and accountability; two areas one education advocacy group hopes to improve during Lafayette Parish School Board meetings.
The group LaPESC or Lafayette Parish Public Education Stakeholders Council will unveil a weekly survey during tomorrow night’s school board meeting called Project Involve. Its purpose; to gather your input from each meeting and provide constructive feedback to school board members in hopes they strive for better governance practices.
“I think it will spur discussion in the community and our current school board members. Maybe they will get information they were not aware of or didn't realize was important. For school board candidates it will give them invaluable information as to what the community wants to see in elected leaders…we just hope it raises discussion for everyone” said LaPESC member Jan Swift.
Questions like “how was effective governance visible at today’s meeting” or “what if any could the board have done differently in this meeting that would have resulted in better governance.”
“They do need to be held accountable and it will let the people know what we are looking for in governance, which is transparency. We want to see our meetings conducted in a more professional manner. I think if people feel like they have a voice they will take more of an interest. So we want everyone to know your voice matters” said Swift.
If you would like to participate in the online survey, head to www.lapesc.com. The results gathered will be presented to each school board member and to the public.
