Arrest made in in Iberia Parish rape and auto theft
A New Iberia man is behind bars, accused of physically and sexually assaulting an unidentified New Iberia woman before stealing her car.
With assistance from Lafayette Police, Iberia Parish Deputies found 47 year old James Neil White of New Iberia at a Lafayette residence and took him into custody on Sunday. White was charged with aggravated rape, simple battery and auto theft.
Iberia detectives say the incident began when White asked the victim for a ride. Sometime later, he allegedly forced her at knife point to drive to a rural area near Loreauville where she was raped and beaten.
Police say white then forced the victim out of her own car and fled. Patrol deputies actually discovered the victim in the rural area around three o'clock Saturday afternoon. She was treated and released from a local hospital.
White is currently being held in the Iberia Parish Jail on a 1.5 million dollar bond.
