A multi-thousand dollar theft of lawn and garden machinery from the Opelousas Parks and Recreation Department has been solved with the arrest of three suspects.
This past Wednesday Opelousas police say they were advised that a John Deere Zero Turn lawn mower, an X/Mark Zero Turn lawn mower, a John Deere Cushman 4-wheeler, and a 16 ft trailer used to transport the equipment had been stolen from a city barn. Investigators say all of the equipment was located several days later when a resident of Lawtell called to report suspicious lawn equipment near his property.
After further investigation, authorities arrested 18 year old Tamarick Collins, 18 year old Javon Talbert and 18 year old Katericka Freeman on charges of simple burglary.
Authorities say Collins and Talbert have bonded out but Freeman remains in an Opelousas jail and all will go before a magistrate Monday morning.
The estimated value of the equipment is around $200,000.
