A Vermilion Parish family is looking for answers after their house was broken into and burglarized last week.
According to the Byers family, thousands of dollars in cash and electronics were taken. The burglary took place around noon last Tuesday, after one member of the household left the door unlocked while running a quick errand. Grateful no one was hurt, the family had been saving that money for quite some time and planned to use it to take their first vacation in twenty years.
“I work two jobs and so does my husband to support our seven children” said Sharon Byers. Byers, a waitress, would put some of her tips in a big water jug she has in her house. When that jug was taken, so was their vacation.
“It took a lot of time and effort to save that money. Then someone comes and takes it, just like that” said Byers.
The family now locks their door whenever they leave. The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office did obtain two finger prints from the scene. If you have any information on this crime please call their office at 337- 898-4409.
