Lawn and Garden: Fungus on Ornamentals

Gary:  Today on your Lawn & Garden we’re talking about killing fungus.  It’s all over the yard, but how do you take care of it? John says we have a couple of tips for you.

John: Yes, I have many fungicides for many different problems; brown spots, powdery mildew, root rots, things like that.

I have two or three products here, I have the Dithane, it’s a wetable powder, mix it with water, spray it on all your problems, but it works best if you spray it as a preventative.  Don’t wait till you have a problem because it takes longer to get rid of it.

I also have the Agri-Fos, for more root type diseases you may have, for root rots and things like that.

Third of all, I have the liquid copper, which is a natural product, for people that want natural.  It’s a very good fungicide, one of the first ever to come out and its general purpose which means it can be used on fruits, vegetables, all your ornamentals.  We recommend it right now for all the palms.  People that have lost a lot of palms or are thinking that they are dead.  That top portion of the palm, if it comes out, throw it away, it’s no good. The plant will die.  If it stays in there and it looks like you might have a little green in there, spray the liquid copper into the heart of the palm and you can save it.
