UL Affected by State Budget Cuts

State budget cuts are starting to take their toll on the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Since 2008, state funding for higher education has dropped from 1.7 billion dollars to just 780 million. That's a 55% decrease.

Officials with the university say it's been several years since the state has granted money for faculty raises an issue that makes it difficult for UL to attract and retain world-class professors. While the university used to receive more than two-thirds of its funding from the state, that number is now less than one-third, requiring the university to rely on self-generating sources of income.  On the bright side,

UL officials say budget issues will not affect the master plan nor do they plan to begin making any layoffs.
