.An inmate with the St. Landry Parish Jail is facing additional charges following his short lived escape on April 22, 2014. Tyrone Byers was formally charged on April 25, 2014 with aggravated escape and second degree battery of a correctional officer.St. Landry Parish Sheriff Spokesperson Captain Megan Vizena said, “While inmate Tyrone Byers was under the supervision of 2 deputies at a local dentist office, Byers asked one of the deputies to escort him to the restroom.
While in the restroom, Byers, who stands 6’6” and 225lbs, overpowered the deputy by placing him in a head lock and began chocking him until the deputy became unconscious. All surrounding agencies were notified of Byers escape and a man hunt began immediately.”Vizena said, “At approximately 9:20 a.m., an employee at the Gold Rush Truck Stop reported seeing a black male subject fitting the description of Byers. Deputies were able to locate Byers at 9:22 a.m. running in a field north of the Quarters Truck Stop.”
Byers will appear in front of Judge Donald Hebert on Monday for his additional charges. He is also scheduled for an arraignment on May 22, 2014 for an armed robbery charge from a previous incident that occurred in Melville.
