A twenty two year old Scott woman is facing charges of vehicular homicide and DWI following a head on collision yesterday that killed a prominent local businessman and civic leader. That crash happened Thursday afternoon on Golden Grain Road.
Police say 22 year old Blaire Duhon was driving westbound when she approached a curve, crossed the center line and struck an oncoming Chevy pickup truck. The driver of the pickup, seventy-four year old Jerry Meaux, a local businessman and chairman of the Louisiana Racing Commission, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Duhon was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. She was later booked into the lafayette Parish Correctional Center on charges of driving while intoxicated, vehicular homicide, driving left of center and littering.
Slemco C.E.O. J.U. Gajan released this statement last night following Meaux's death: "It is with great sorrow that we acknowledge the death of our long-time board member, Jerry Meaux. He faithfully served the SLEMCO membership for 32 years as a board member and 22 of those years as our board president. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very difficult time," said J.U. Gajan, SLEMCO CEO & General Manager.
