Maurice maps out future

It’s official; the Village of Maurice finalized a plan that zones their entire area as light industrial.

After months of planning and developing city officials unveiled their zoning maps during their last council meeting. Being zoned light industrial will restrict what businesses can and cannot move into the village. Mayor Wayne Theriot says with that hurdle cleared, they are now focusing on mapping out individual areas.

“The zoning commission meets first Thursday of every month. They will start going through the map as a whole and sub-categorizing each area as residential or commercial” said Theritot. Theriot goes on to say being zoned as light industrial gives them not only protection but guidance as they continue to grow.

“People who come in and want to develop here or set residence here they now know or will know what will be in the property next to them and how it will be developed."

If a resident or business has an issue with how they are zoned in the future, there is an appeals process they can take up with the board of aldermen.
