Suspect Arrested After Shooting into Home

On April 22, 2014, at approximately 3:15 am, Lafayette Police responded to the 500 block of Orchid Drive regarding someone shooting at a residence.

There were 13 occupants inside of the home at the time of the shooting.  One of the occupants looked out the window and identified the suspect as Kevin Alexander (37) of Lafayette.  Alexander is the estranged ex-boyfriend of one of the occupants inside of the residence. No one was injured inside of the home.  The suspect fled the scene in a black 2008 GMC pickup.

The suspect was later located by Lafayette Police operating the vehicle, at which time the suspect fled by entering I-10 traveling west toward Lake Charles.  The suspect was pursued by multiple agencies until the vehicle was stopped at mile marker 43 with the assistance of the Louisiana State Police.  The suspect, Kevin Alexander, was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office and booked.  He was later transported to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office and booked on 13 counts of Attempted 1st Degree Murder and Aggravated Flight from an Officer.  The investigation remains ongoing.

Lafayette city-parish government paid more than $82,000 to settle a taser-related lawsuit filed by Kevin Alexander in 2004. Alexander alleged he was severely injured in 2004 when police repeatedly used a stun gun in an attempt to make him cough up drugs he allegedly had swallowed.
