Innov8 plan to capitalize on Festival International

Innov8 Lafayette, a festival geared towards creativity, entrepreneurship and of course innovation is in its third year.

Initially created as an economic development tool for the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, the festival has grown to include every aspect that makes the city unique, including food, manufacturing, fine arts, music and film.“If we show people what a great place Lafayette is, then we can bring more business and a growth,” said Chris Allain, Co-Chair of Innov8. Eight days, 50 events, webinars, guest speakers and even a mini-fest within a festival, Cajun Code-fest, all coincides with the mother of Lafayette celebrations, Festival International de Louisiana.

In previous years, Innov8 ended just before Festival, but in 2014, organizers layered Innov8 to capitalize on the nearly 400,000 people from across the world who will attend. “A lot of people want to come to Lafayette to participate in the festival and we give them another excuse to do it,” Allain began.

“We are looking more to bring in a smaller group but imagine if it were a group of business owners and investors and entrepreneurs and investors and creative types that are looking to collaborate.

”It’s not all for the business minded. Innov8 includes public parties, tasting and an awards ceremony to honor those at the top of their game in innovation.“Our keynote speaker this year is Steve Berlin Johnson. He’s a nationally recognized author and a headliner in innovation. He will be speaking at the Innov8 awards ceremony on April 29th,” Allain explained.Five pioneers in innovation, three local business and two local non-profits will be presented with awards, including the 650 plus employees of C&C Technology.

Thomas Chance, CEO and President of C&C along with technicians and engineers help to spearhead improvements inautonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) technology. The same type of technology that is being used across the world in the search for missing Malaysian Airlines 370. “It's a prime example of innovation. This is innovation that was done here in the Lafayette area, “said Chance.

“Technology that we developed initially around 2000"Perhaps what Innov8 has become known best for is The Vault; a pitch event aimed at helping start-ups become big business. “There will be investors listening to these pitches and choosing which idea or company to support,” Allian said.

Students, start-ups, non-profits and existing businesses will have the chance to enter The Vault on April 29th, for a chance to catapult their dreams.

Innov8 kicks off April 23rd and runs through April 30th, taking a breather on April 26th and 27th to enjoy special VIP events at Festival International.
