Families celebrate Easter in Girard Park

Kitchens across Acadiana were packed Sunday with family and friends cooking up a storm for Easter. Others took a more unorthodox approach and have been doing it for decades.

There were dozens of families that opted for a less traditional Easter spending Sunday in Girard Park. Juanita Smith says she's been coming here on Easter for the last fifty-nine years. She says many traditions of the day haven't changed.

"Everything is pretty in Girard Park. Just having crawfish boils and enjoying the little kids play." said Smith. Only now she has a new friend to share the day with.

"I brought my little chihuahua because we never hardly get out that much and she loves the air and the sun and the fresh air." said Smith.

14-year-old Abigail Duhon and her family are celebrating their twenty-second year of Easter in the park. "Just for like the kids there's like the play sets and everyone had the baseball field it just makes it a little more of a celebration." said Duhon.
