The BBB receives hundreds of calls each year asking us about grant companies. Better Business Bureau of Acadiana is alerting consumers and businesses to Grants Now USA, which claims to offer free grants, but actually just provides a disc of grant resources for hundreds of dollars.
According to BBB files, Grants Now USA and its parent company, CFC, Inc are not affiliated with any government agency. They are actually for-profit organizations that sell a computer CD-ROM and manual for a fee of $349.00 that contains an index of grant and loan programs that the consumer must contact in order to apply for a grant.
Factors that lowered Grants Now USA's rating include 24 complaints filed against business, failure to respond to 15 complaints filed against business and two complaints filed against business were not resolved.
The company also has failed to resolve underlying cause(s) of a pattern of complaints.
Consumers allege when they attempted to reach the company for assistance in completing a business plan, they had difficulty obtaining the guaranteed help due to poor customer service. Other complaints allege the company fails to complete the promised business plan or the business plan was incomplete or poorly written. Still other complaints allege failure by the company to deliver grant packages or issue refunds.
BBB sent certified correspondence to Grants Now USA requesting their immediate cooperation in responding to the unanswered complaints and in eliminating the pattern of complaint; however, BBB's mail was returned "Refused."
It is important to remember that most sources of grant money don't give grants to individuals to meet personal need. Grants usually are given to serve a social good, such as bringing jobs to an area, training under-employed youth, preserving history, funding soup kitchens or art museums or researching medical issues.
BBB has verified that the address of Grants Now USA is not a physical address, but a personal mail box issued through a UPS Store.
BBB offers the following tips to avoid these and similar scams:
·There are no government grants to pay consumers' personal bills
