One man's death while attacking an Opelousas woman in her home early Thursday morning has left Opelousas police with many questions.

According to police, the victim was awakened at 1:30 a.m. by a man on top of her with a machete. The victim attempted to fight off her attacker sustaining wounds from the weapon.

That's when the victim says her attacker collapsed and fell off of her. She went to a neighbor's house and called the sheriff's department. Deputies say when they arrived at the victim's home, the attacker was dead on the floor.

Investigators have not determined a motive for the attack. The sheriff's office says the alleged attacker will undergo an autopsy to determine just how he died.
