Napoleonville man killed in Ascension Parish crash

Updated:

SORRENTO, La. (AP) - A 36-year-old Napoleonville man was killed in a head-on crash with a dump truck.

Louisiana State Police Trooper First Class Jared Sandifer says it happened just before 10 a.m. Tuesday on La. 70, south of La. 22, in Ascension Parish.

Sandifer says the victim was identified as Shelby G. Johnson.

State police say Johnson's Mustang was headed north while 40-year-old Donna Dunaway, of Gonzales, was driving south in a 2006 Mack dump truck. Investigators say Johnson's car, for unknown reasons, crossed the center line into the southbound lane and hit the truck head on.

Despite the fact that he was wearing his seatbelt, Johnson sustained fatal injuries. Dunaway was not hurt.

Driver impairment is not suspected for either driver; however, Sandifer says toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis.
