Lafayette Sheriff's Office warns of scam alert

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating a phone scam involving residents being targeted by a man identifying himself as a Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Lieutenant. 

The man explains that the person missed a jury duty appearance and that a warrant has been issued for the person.  The con man tells the person that to resolve the matter the person should post $500 by way of a gift card green dot card or other online fund transfer to avoid being arrested.  The man is using the name Lt. Michael Harris and Lt. Robertson claims to be employed by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office. 

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office does not at any time solicit any funds by phone, matters of this nature are managed in person and do not require any online transfer of funds or any gift cards.  At no time should anyone hand money or transfer monies to a deputy in the field all transactions are handled through the bonds and fines offices at the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office. 

Residents are asked to contact the Sheriff's Office to report any suspected scams similar to this one for further investigation.
