The city of Kaplan rolled out the red carpet for thirty-five people from its twin city Hannut, Belgium.
Their weeklong visit is jammed packed full of events and got started Monday with a reception at Kaplan city hall. The families from Belgium will stay with host families living in Kaplan. The twin cities alternate hosting every two years.
An official with Hannut says there are many similarities between his town and Kaplan. When Kaplan hosted four years ago, a young couple traveling with their families began talking because they were the only young people on the trip. Since that day they have dated exclusively.
They are now making a return trip as boyfriend and girlfriend. After their week stay in Kaplan the exchange families will head to New Orleans where they will set sail on a week-long cruise to Cozumel.
Kaplan and Hannut have been hosting families since 2000.
