ASO presents final concert of its masterworks series

Updated:

Acadiana Symphony Orchestra's final concert of its 2013-2014 Masterworks Concert Series will be this Friday, April 4 at the St. John's Cathedral beginning a 7:30 pm.

Baroque masterpieces will gloriously resound in St. John's Cathedral, followed by the Acadiana premiere of Estonian composer, Arvo Pärt, through his masterwork, Fratres, transfixing in its beatific simplicity.

The dulcet voices of the University of Louisiana Chamber Singers and UL Chorale directed by William F. Plummer will perfect the sonic experience with "Dark Night of the Soul"  by Gjeilo and Cantata No. 191 ("Gloria in Excelsis Deo") by Bach.

This concert is a special tribute to longtime ASO supporters and sponsors, Ann and Walter Dobie.  The Dobies moved to Lafayette in 1958 and began attending ASO performances "since the day we moved here. We in Lafayette are so fortunate," says Ann, "to have this remarkable symphony orchestra along with other first class cultural institutions." And, ASO is thankful to have the Dobies.

Ann is an accomplished published author and has contributed her writing to the symphony's Overture magazine, including a piece in the April issue, "Music Fit for a King: Handel's Water Music."
