A 16-year-old girl is accused of fatally stabbing her teen ‘best friend' in an attack spurred by nude photos of the pair together posted on social media, according to several media sources.
Anel Baez, also age 16, of Mexico, was killed when she was stabbed 65 times March 19 after allegedly posting photos of her and a friend, officials said.
Anel had invited her ‘friend' Erandy Elizabeth Gutierrez over to her home to resolve the ongoing feud over the photos, according to Mexican media reports.
The New York Daily News reported that the attacking teen asked to use the bathroom as a distraction, but then grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed Anel.
Erandy fled after the attack, officials say, and was seen publicly grieving over the death in the following days. But she showed up at Anel's funeral on March 26 where she was taken into custody, the New York Daily News reported.
According to Mexican website Notus, Erandy had threatened Anel weeks before the incident using a now-deleted Twitter account.
"It may seem that I am very calm, but in my head I have killed you at least three times," the site reports she wrote the account.
Prosecutors said Gutierrez admitted slaying Baez as revenge, Notus reported. Police say that they expect to charge Guiterrez with murder later this week.
