A crumbling situation

Updated:

It's a growing problem in Youngsville that prompted city officials to declare an emergency situation. The influx of construction in that area has brought with it many large trucks and the pavement along Chemin Metairie Parkway is crumbling.

Even though the road is under six years old, the increase in heavy traffic combined with a cold, wet winter has caused the road near the cities new sports complex to fail. According to Mayor Wilson Viator heavy truck traffic in that area has increased by one thousand percent of what they originally projected. Viator also said when the road was built it was limestone based and wasn't salt concrete.

Viator says when they repair the road whether they use concrete or asphalt, they will remove the limestone and go back to salt concrete. Viator hopes to start repairs next week, which could last two months.

The project is estimated to cost over a half million dollars. The city will dip into its general fund to pay for the repairs.
