Dozens gather downtown for Acadiana Pride Festival

Updated:

Parc International was in full swing Saturday as Acadiana hosted its first ever gay pride festival.

The four day Acadiana Pride Festival opened Thursday night with a ceremony that featured a drag musical comedy at the Cite des Arts in downtown Lafayette.

Saturday there were vendors and live music in Parc International. One huge reason for celebration?
An overwhelming amount of support from the community.

"The community has been amazing. We've had absolutely no protests, no backlash no anything. I think that what we've learned over the weekend is that Lafayette is a lot more accepting of the diversity of the community than anyone ever gave us credit for and for that I really want to thank Acadiana." said Ted Richard

Sunday, the festival will round out the four day event ending where it started at Cite des Arts.
