SLCC hosts Civil Air Patrol training weekend

Civil Air Patrol divisions trained to search and rescue, among other skills during weekend of intense training.

Personnel of the Louisiana Wing Academy of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) attended a two day training session which began at 7:30AM on Saturday at South Louisiana Community College.
The training, conducted under the leadership of Major Daniel Lemanczyk tackled all three of the Civil Air Patrol Missions: Aerospace Education, Cadet Programs and Emergency Services.

The Lafayette Composite Squadron (SWR-LA-014)  hosted the Academy providing instructions for both senior personnel and cadets. The courses included aerospace education, squadron leadership school, mission pilot, mission observer, mission scanner, airborne photography, robotics, model rocketry, safety, communications school, cadet airman leadership school and cadet non-commissioned officer school. Personnel from all Louisiana Squadrons gathered in Lafayette, LA to achieve skills and training necessary to sustain proficiency in search and rescue, disaster and relief, and Homeland Security missions.

Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, is a nonprofit organization with more than 56,000 personnel nationwide. CAP performs 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and credited by the AFRCC with saving 90 lives in fiscal year of 2008. Its volunteers also perform Homeland Security, disaster relief and counter-drug missions at the request of federal, state, and local agencies. The personals play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to the nearly 22,000 young people currently participating in CAP cadet programs. CAP also has been performing missions for America for more than 68 years.
The Academy is held on 29th & 30th of March of 2014.
