New LPD station opens

Updated:

The Lafayette Police Department has a new precinct. It's located on Moss Street across from the Northgate Mall.

Precinct four covers an area east of the Evangeline Thruway into the McComb Veazey area all the way to the parish line.

The precinct sits in the district of consolidated councilman Kenneth Boudreaux. Boudreaux says it's been a long time coming.

"We get a beautiful facility and a beautiful piece of land and just like it was indicated now the community has something we can connect to.  I'm just feeling great as an official.  This is by far the greatest accomplishment for me as a councilman was the ability to make this happen.""

Boudreaux says from demolishing the old structure to building the new and all the amenities the cost for precinct four comes in at about $800,000.
